Children of the Early Licensees of the Coach and Horses Hotel
We will devote the whole evening to Anita Barker’s study of this amazing subject. Anita is in the final stages of submitting a thesis, to complete her university studies. The historical society has been working with Anita in gathering material.
The difficulty is that children are not recorded in voter’s rolls or many other similar types of references. They are the forgotten people.
As well, the licensees only stayed in the area for a few years, before moving on, so little is written in our newspapers about them, particularly for an institution such as a hotel.
As an offshoot to this study , Anita “unearthed” a previously undiscovered area of children’s toys. The 54 boxes of material removed from the site, due to Eastlink, will be used to piece together the solutions to mysteries.
There has been no similar research done in Australia, or even worldwide, on this subject. Anita has gone to extraordinary efforts to delve into details.
This is a meeting not to be missed. It will not be repeated.

Ringwood Soccer Club
Ringwood Soccer Club Matt Winzenried, and his vice-president, will present the history of one of the most successful soccer clubs in Melbourne. Ringwood City Soccer Club (Wilhelmina) began in the mind of Dutchman John van Hoboken, back in 1953.
The club has always had strong Dutch connections, proudly wearing their orange shirts, the national colour of the Netherlands.
Matt has spent the last few years compiling the club’s history. It has been many years since we have featured a local sporting club, often the backbone of the communities youth and social life.
Theatre Organs in Melbourne
East Ringwood resident, Neville O’Connor, will make a cameo appearance on one of his many, and varied, interests, theatre organs.

This being the first get together for the year, we thought it was a good time to recap on the history of another area of Ringwood. Previously we covered the Mechanics Institute/Town Hall progression over the years, then we followed the area from ‘Clocktower to Clocktower, the seven precincts from Ringwood Street to Warrandyte Road, along Whitehorse Road.
This time, we’re presenting a section of Warrandyte Road, from the top, where the Clocktower was, to Mullum Mullum Creek.
This should be a fascinating trip, taking us past Bamford’s timber yard, the Salvation Army Hall, the bowling club, the old library, the Oddfellows/Masonic halls, Oliver Pratt’s sub-division, the Gospel Hall, the old doctor’s surgery, Conlon’s bakery, Slade’s drinks and much more. Richard Carter and Russ Haines will act as guides.
